Epigram, Kolon FnC's 10-year-old lifestyle brand, was discontinued
Kolon FnC killed Epigram after years of poor sales — a slow-life concept that never found enough paying customers.

What happened
Epigram, a lifestyle brand launched by Kolon FnC in 2015, was discontinued in January 2026 after a decade of operation. All department store and offline retail operations were closed following the completion of the 2025 Fall/Winter season sales. Kolon FnC retained the trademark for potential future sub-licensing or home-shopping use.
The brand was originally launched in 2012 as a second line of Kolon FnC's menswear brand Series, before becoming an independent label in 2015 with a "Korean slow life" concept — minimalist clothing, home goods, and lifestyle products designed for a contemplative, unhurried aesthetic. Despite the appealing concept, Epigram struggled with sales from early on and never achieved sustainable profitability.
Kolon FnC's decision was part of a broader portfolio restructuring driven by Korea's economic slowdown and changing consumption patterns. The company cut underperforming brands to focus resources on its core labels — Time, System, and Kolon Sport — which generated the bulk of the group's revenue. Epigram was one of several non-core brands eliminated in the restructuring.
The brand's closure reflected the difficulty of translating an aspirational lifestyle concept into a commercially viable fashion business in Korea's competitive apparel market, where consumers gravitate toward either established luxury houses or affordable mass-market options, leaving mid-tier lifestyle brands in a narrow and unforgiving band.
Why it happened
- Epigram's "Korean slow life" concept resonated with editorial coverage but not with enough paying customers — the brand never reached the scale to cover its retail operating costs.
- Korea's consumption polarisation pushed mid-priced lifestyle brands into a squeeze between luxury and fast fashion, leaving Epigram's gentle minimalism without a defensible price-value position.
- Kolon FnC needed to cut non-core brands during an economic downturn, and Epigram — a decade old with persistent losses — was the most obvious candidate for elimination.
The lesson
A lifestyle concept that gets editorial love but not enough sales is a hobby, not a business. Ten years is a long time to confirm what the first three already showed.
Aftermath
Epigram's offline stores closed by early 2026 after the FW2025 season ended. The trademark remained with Kolon FnC, which explored sub-licensing or home-shopping channel opportunities. Kolon FnC continued operating its core brands including Time, System, and Kolon Sport. The restructuring was part of a broader industry trend in Korea where fashion conglomerates cut mid-tier lifestyle brands that could not achieve scale.
