Leading Labels — outlet chain that sold Calvin Klein and Wrangler goes under

UK discount fashion chain Leading Labels entered liquidation in May 2026 — 15 stores closing after repeated strike-off warnings

Leading Labels · 2026-05-26

What happened

Leading Labels was a UK fashion outlet chain that sold discounted clothing from brands including Calvin Klein, Wrangler, Elle and Joules. It operated 15 large-format outlet stores across the UK, positioning itself as a destination for branded fashion at reduced prices.

The business had been struggling for some time. A Gazette notice on 10 March 2026 warned that the company faced being struck off the register and dissolved unless cause was shown to the contrary within two months. According to Companies House filings, Leading Labels had outstanding accounts due by 30 November 2025. It was not the first time the company had received such a warning.

On 26 May 2026, Leading Labels entered liquidation and appointed Jeremy Bleazard of XL Business Solutions as liquidator. Clearance sales launched across all stores with 'Everything Must Go' signage as the business wound down. The collapse reflects the continuing pressure on UK fashion retail from rising rents, increasing business rates, declining foot traffic, and squeezed consumer spending.

Why it happened

  • Leading Labels operated in the discount outlet segment — the most crowded part of UK fashion retail, where thin margins leave no buffer when costs rise
  • The business received multiple strike-off warnings but failed to file accounts on time, suggesting financial distress long before the liquidation
  • Rising rents and business rates on large-format outlet units became unsustainable as footfall declined across UK retail parks
  • Consumer spending shifted further toward ultra-fast fashion online, squeezing the physical discount channel that Leading Labels depended on

The lesson

A discount fashion chain with no proprietary brand or online presence has two defences — price and location — and when both erode, there is nothing left to save

Aftermath

Leading Labels entered liquidation on 26 May 2026 with Jeremy Bleazard of XL Business Solutions appointed as liquidator. All 15 stores held clearance sales. The exact number of job losses was not disclosed.
