Bluestorm life vest: 83.6N of buoyancy where the line is 100N

Marine Planet's BSJ-2920RS vest measured 83.6N against a 100N minimum buoyancy. Korea ordered recall 23 Jul 2026; stop use, exchange or refund.

What happened

Marine Planet recalled the Bluestorm BSJ-2920RS(RED) sports life vest in Korea on July 23, 2026, under a government collection-and-exchange order — total buoyancy measured 83.6N at first and 82.8N after 24 hours against a 100N minimum, and the label omitted the wear weight, minimum buoyancy and instructions the standard requires.

A vest that floats 17% short of its promise turns the wearer's trust into ballast. No accident was reported; owners stop use and contact Marine Planet for repair, exchange or refund.

Certified in 2019 and recalled in 2026 — the shortfall was found by seasonal surveillance testing, not by an accident.

Why it happened

  • Buoyancy 83.6N vs 100N minimum, labels missing wear weight and instructions — Korea ordered recall Jul 23, 2026; stop use, exchange or refund
  • A life vest sells one number — the newtons it holds you up with — and this one borrowed 17% of it back
  • The 24-hour reading barely dropped, 82.8N — the vest was simply built under the line, not worn under it
What it costA vest line recalled 17% under the linecostly

The lesson

A safety standard is not a target, it is the floor someone drowns below. A vest that measures 83.6N passed every check except the one that matters — holding a body up.
