Crate & Barrel sold its Hampshire crib in natural brown, grey, olive, white and blush from June 2022 to November 2023, manufactured in China. The recall covers five SKUs, 246898, 405394, 534758, 534987 and 535020.

In a joint recall with Health Canada and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, announced on 25 April 2024, the company said the mattress supports can become loose, dislodge or be damaged, posing fall and entrapment hazards. As of 27 March 2024 it had received 2 reports of faulty screws connecting the support to the crib and 1 report of a damaged support in Canada, and 12 reports of loose or dislodged supports and 1 of a damaged support in the US. No injuries were reported.

The company reported about 120 cribs sold in Canada and about 2,600 in the US.

About 2,720 cribs recalled (120 in Canada, 2,600 in the US); repair kit or pickup with refund for every owner; no injuries reported.

The screws that connect the mattress support to the crib were faulty in some units.

A loose or dislodged support leaves a gap or drop beneath the mattress, which is what makes it a fall and entrapment hazard for an infant.

Reports came in from both Canada and the US, and the same crib model was sold in both markets from June 2022 to November 2023.

In a crib the mattress support is the floor the child sleeps on; a fastener failure there is a fall and entrapment hazard even before anyone is hurt.

Crate & Barrel told owners to stop using the cribs and offered either a repair kit or a pickup of the crib for a refund, and said it would contact all known purchasers directly. Under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act the recalled cribs cannot be redistributed, sold or given away in Canada.
