Prada cut Kim Soo-hyun "at the headquarters level" — days after allegations broke
Allegations in early March 2025 about the actor's private life ended his Prada ambassadorship on March 14 — a call the brand stressed came from headquarters.

What happened
In early March 2025, days after the death of actress Kim Sae-ron, allegations about Kim Soo-hyun's private life involving the late actress swept Korean media, and advertisers began moving: Soompi reported that brands in outdoor apparel, banking, fashion, bakery and major retail had started removing ads featuring him, pausing scheduled campaigns or signaling they would not renew contracts.
On March 14, Prada ended his contract as global ambassador with a statement: "In consideration of the gravity of the issue, we have mutually agreed to terminate our contract with actor Kim Soo Hyun." The house added: "This decision was made at the headquarters level, and as of now, we can confirm that the contract has been terminated."
The statement confirmed the decision without confirming any of the allegations — "the gravity of the issue" was the reason given, not a finding. Kim Soo-hyun's agency publicly denied the allegations, but the ambassador contract was already gone, and the same wave kept other advertisers pulling or pausing his campaigns.
Why it happened
- The statement made the decision's provenance its message — "headquarters level" answered any question about who decided and why.
- The exit came days into a story moving at the speed of Korean media — the brand acted before the story could attach itself to a campaign cycle.
- The wording confirmed nothing about the allegations — the contract was the only thing Prada addressed, which made the statement as notable for what it left out as for what it said.
The lesson
A luxury house can craft an exit that says everything about the contract and nothing about the facts — "headquarters level" ends the deal without confirming a single allegation.
Aftermath
Prada never reversed the termination. The same wave pushed advertisers across outdoor apparel, banking, fashion, bakery and retail to remove ads, pause campaigns or drop renewal plans, while the actor's agency denied the allegations publicly. The Prada exit joined a pattern the house had seen before: an ambassador's name becoming a risk the brand would not carry.
