PowerXL's dual-basket air fryer: the connector meant to join two baskets broke apart
PowerXL recalled 319,000 dual-basket air fryers after the plastic connector joining the two baskets broke during use, causing burn injuries.
PowerXL · Empower Brands · 2023-12-14
What happened
PowerXL's Vortex DUAF-10 and DUAF-005 dual-basket air fryers let buyers clip the two baskets together into one large basket via a plastic U-Channel connector.
That connector could break while the fryer was running, causing burn injuries. Empower Brands, the importer, received 41 reports of the product breaking during use, including three reports of burns.
About 319,000 units sold at Target, Walmart and Kohl's from August 2021 to October 2023 were recalled for a full refund. A convenience feature meant to double the appliance became its defect.
Why it happened
- The plastic U-Channel connector could break during use, posing a burn hazard
- 41 reports of the air fryer breaking during use, including three burns
- About 319,000 units recalled for a full refund
The lesson
A convenience feature that breaks in use becomes the defect. PowerXL's basket-joining connector shattered, so 319,000 air fryers were pulled after three burn injuries.
