Super Star Group ran Hung Sing for 36 years — then 16 Chinese restaurants became zero

Hung Sing Chinese Restaurant (鴻星海鮮酒家), operated by the Super Star Group under the Tang Sing Po family, closed its last remaining branch at MOKO in Mong Kok on July 2, 2025. The chain had been founded in 1989 and grew to 16 restaurants across Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shunde, and even Japan. At its peak it was a household name for Chinese seafood banquets.

The decline was gradual but terminal. Hung Sing had already closed its last branch before MOKO — the Kwun Tong location — in March 2024 when the lease expired after 12 years. The brand had been denying rumours of a full closure since 2021, but by 2025 only one restaurant remained. The MOKO closure was announced on the same day it shut.

Approximately 50 employees were affected, with back wages, holiday pay, and severance estimated at HK$6 million. The Labour Department received 50 claims. Some affected staff were told only the evening before the closure. The chain had attempted to negotiate rent reductions with landlords but could not reach terms.
