Grundfos recalled solar pumps whose cables could expose live wires

On September 29, 2026, Health Canada announced the recall of certain 3-inch Grundfos SQFlex solar submersible pumps — groundwater pumps with built-in inverters that accept DC power from solar or wind as well as AC. The hazard: the motor cable may become damaged where it contacts the cable guard, and damaged insulation can expose energized wires, posing an electric shock hazard. Five model families (3 SQF-2, 3 SQF-3, 6 SQF-2, 6 SQF-3, 11 SQF-2) across wide date-code ranges were affected.

Fifty-four of the affected pumps were sold in Canada between November 2025 and August 2026; they were manufactured in Mexico and distributed by Grundfos Canada Inc. As of September 24, 2026, the company had received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

The response was tiered by installation: pumps installed on surfaces, such as tanks and ponds, must be stopped immediately and repaired or replaced; uninstalled pumps go back for replacement; and pumps down in wells need no immediate action but must be identified, isolated and reported to Grundfos whenever they are pulled from the well in future.
