Dong Yuhui's Yu Hui Tong Xing sold fake-origin goods three times in fifteen months

China's fastest-growing livestream seller — ¥21B GMV in 2025 — took down goat milk powder with cow DNA, a fake heritage chicken, and fake-origin supplements.

What happened

After splitting from East Buy, Dong Yuhui's Yu Hui Tong Xing became China's fastest-growing livestream seller: 2025 GMV of over ¥21 billion, with more than 210 million items sold across 421 streams — roughly double the year before. Then the product scandals started, one per season.

In January 2025 two brands of goat milk powder sold in its streams tested positive for cow-derived ingredients. In January 2026 the Mahuang chicken industry association in Lu'an exposed the 'Wanxi Mahuang Chicken' it sold as 'Dabie Mountain butter hens' at ¥83.8 for three: the breed does not exist in the national genetic registry, no supplier had any record of shipping it, and the region raises fewer than 20,000 a year. The listing was renamed, taken down by January 14, and county regulators investigated the consignor — a company previously fined ¥15,000 for food safety violations.

In April 2026 CCTV reported that YouthIt supplements sold in the stream claimed a Melbourne factory that turned out to be an auto repair shop, with production outsourced domestically. Yu Hui Tong Xing announced advance payment and full refunds for every purchaser. Three scandals in fifteen months — the same failure mode that sank Three Sheep in 2024, now running at three times the GMV.

Why it happened

  • GMV doubled to ¥21B across 421 streams and 210 million items in a year — product selection could not keep pace with the selling schedule.
  • A celebrity streamer's trust premium attracts suppliers whose claims do not survive verification.
  • Each scandal ended in refunds rather than tougher vetting, so the next mislabeled supplier was always already in the pipeline.

The lesson

The faster the stream grows, the wider the gap between what it sells and what it has verified. Refunds are receipts for selection failures; at ¥21B of GMV the selection itself is the business.

Aftermath

Yu Hui Tong Xing kept streaming while the chicken case went to regulators, and new SAMR rules on livestreamed food sales took effect months later. The case is now cited as proof that the top-streamer model reproduces the fake-origin failures of earlier collapses, only faster.
