What happened
Yamazen recalled the lid of its EKS-V3 steam humidifier (white, brown and cream) on August 4, 2026 — every unit sold from September 2025 to July 2026 — because opening the lid while it runs can release built-up pressure as a jet of boiling water.
Under use that departs from the manual, pressure rises inside; a rare abnormal sound at the steam outlet precedes the eruption. Reports of the risk exist, with no specific accident count published. The remedy is a free redesigned lid; the body and cord stay in service.
The Consumer Affairs Agency and METI list the recall; owners arrange the swap through their purchase retailer or the free-dial line.
Why it happened
- Opening the lid under internal pressure can erupt boiling water — scald risk; 11 months of sales recalled Aug 4, 2026; free redesigned lid
- The hazard needs use outside the manual — the recall prices the gap between the instructions and the kitchen counter
- Only the lid is replaced — the body and cord keep working; the pressure path is what gets redesigned
The lesson
A sealed pot that sells warmth must assume the user will open it at the worst moment. The manual says don't; the redesign assumes they will — eleven months apart.
