EX30's battery: dendrites that made Volvo cap the charge at 70%

What happened

In January 2026, Volvo recalled the EX30 globally over battery fire risk — and left China out, drawing double-standard accusations. In June, Zhejiang Haoqing Automobile Manufacturing, the Geely plant that builds the Chinese EX30, filed its own recall: 2,501 units, production dates 12 April 2024 to 27 December 2024.

A production deviation let lithium dendrites grow inside the cells — internal short circuit and, in extreme cases, thermal runaway. Until the fix, owners were advised to charge no past 70%. The recall (S2026M0066V) took effect June 18, 2026.

The battery that was excluded from a global recall in January came back in June with a 70% ceiling. The dendrite is a manufacturing decision, recorded in crystal.
