On October 1, 2026, Health Canada ordered Junior Brands Corp. to recall the Valco Baby Trend Duo Double Stroller — an unusual mandatory recall, announced by the regulator rather than volunteered by the company. Health Canada's own sampling and evaluation program had determined the stroller did not meet the Carriages and Strollers Regulations.

The failures came in threes. The stroller could tip over while in use, posing fall and injury hazards to the children riding in it. The leg opening in front of the seat could allow a child's torso to fit through, creating a serious entrapment risk. And certain areas around the seat exposed children to shearing or pinching hazards.

Only 314 of the affected units — model N0048, sold in Night, Charcoal, Cappuccino and Cloud — had been sold in Canada, between August 2024 and December 2025. As of September 25, 2026, the company reported no incidents and no injuries in Canada; the hazard was established by the regulator's testing, not by anyone getting hurt.

Health Canada ordered consumers to stop using the stroller immediately and contact Junior Brands for information on eliminating the hazards, and reminded the public that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits reselling or even giving away a recalled product.

314 strollers sold in Canada from August 2024 to December 2025; the company must fix the hazards — no injuries reported as of September 25, 2026.

This was an ordered recall, not a voluntary one — Health Canada tested the stroller itself and compelled the action.

One product failed three separate hazard categories at once: tip-over, entrapment, and shearing or pinching.

Sixteen months of sales with a zero-incident record still meant nothing against a lab test.

When a regulator tests products itself, a clean incident log counts for nothing: compliance is measured in the lab, not in the complaints inbox.

The recall notice directed buyers to Junior Brands for hazard remediation; the source records no injuries and no penalty. The Canada Consumer Product Safety Act bars redistribution of the recalled strollers.
