What happened
Therabody began recalling the battery charging stand for its Theragun G4PRO percussive massager on June 23, 2026, sending a stop-sale notice to distributors, retailers and resellers in the United States and Canada. The FDA posted the recall on July 31, 2026 as a Class II medical device recall, number Z-2835-2026, covering 584,224 chargers; Health Canada posted its own recall notice on August 20, 2026.
The hazard is overheating while charging the massager's removable battery pack. The FDA's entry says Therabody received reports alleging the charger caught fire, along with visible smoke, melting, charger burn, a burning odor and overheating; Therabody says no injuries have been reported to it. Unable to tie the problem to a particular production batch, the company recalled every G4PRO charger rather than specific lots — all units sold since May 2020, covering a stand whose production ended in 2022.
Only the charger is recalled: owners keep the G4PRO massager and its battery pack and can keep using the device with another charging method, such as a wireless charger. Registered owners choose a free replacement charger or up to $100 in Therabody.com credit ($140 in Canada), and the offer extends to buyers whose charger came through third-party sites such as eBay. Therabody says it has since redesigned the charger with added protections against overheating.
What it cost
584,224 chargers recalled in the US and Canada — a free replacement charger or up to $100 ($140 Canada) in Therabody.com credit for each owner.
Why it happened
The charger could overheat while charging the G4PRO's removable battery pack, with reports of fire, smoke and melting.
Therabody could not isolate the failures to specific lots, so all 584,224 chargers sold since May 2020 had to be recalled.
The stand was also sold on its own, not just bundled with the G4PRO, widening the recall population beyond original buyers.
The charger stayed in circulation long after production ended in 2022, so the population spanned six years of sales.
The lesson
When a maker cannot tie failures to specific lots, the recall has to cover every unit ever sold — for a charger bundled with a device from 2020, that means all 584,224.
Aftermath
Owners are told to stop using the charger, unplug it, keep it away from children and register its serial number on Therabody's recall site before discarding anything. The FDA's entry listed the cause as under investigation by the company as of its July 31, 2026 posting. Health Canada's notice directed owners to stop using the charger and contact Therabody for a replacement charger or a credit code. Owners whose G4PRO is still under warranty keep their warranty rights.
