Bellanc SPEEDSTAR pads: protection that passes the crash through
Knee pads transmitted 7kN where the standard caps 6 — elbow and palm over too. Korea ordered recall 23 Jul 2026; stop use, exchange or refund.

What happened
Saraco recalled the Bellanc SPEEDSTAR 2309 roller-sports protectors in Korea on July 23, 2026, under a collection-and-exchange order — shock absorption failed on every surface: the knee pad transmitted 7kN against a 6kN ceiling, the elbow 6kN against 4, the palm 5kN against 3.
A protector is measured by the force it stops; these passed the fall straight to the bone. No accident was reported; owners stop use and contact Saraco for repair, exchange or refund.
Certified in 2020, recalled in 2026 — the pads skated under the standard for six years of knees.
Why it happened
- Shock transmission 7/6/5 kN vs ceilings 6/4/3 — knee, elbow, palm all over; Korea ordered recall Jul 23, 2026; stop use, exchange or refund
- Protective gear sells the promise of a softer landing — every measured surface broke the promise in the same direction
- The pad that passes the crash through is worse than no pad — it prices the fall at a discount the body pays
The lesson
Safety gear is tested in newtons because bodies are spent in newtons. A protector over the limit is not weak equipment — it is an injury with a receipt.
