Peloton's second seat-post recall hit its other bike line two years later
Peloton recalled 2.2 million original Bikes for a breaking seat post in 2023 — in 2025, the same failure showed up on 833,000 Bike+ units instead.

What happened
In May 2023, Peloton recalled every original Bike (model PL01) it had ever sold — 2.2 million units, manufactured in Taiwan and sold since January 2018 — after 35 reports of the seat post breaking during use caused 13 injuries, including a fractured wrist and lacerations from falls.
On November 6, 2025, Peloton and the CPSC issued a second seat-post recall, this time for the original Bike+ (model PL02), covering about 833,000 units sold in the US and Canada between December 2019 and July 2022. Three reports of the seat post breaking and detaching led to two injuries from falls.
Both recalls offered the same remedy: a free replacement seat post that owners install themselves. The Bike+ recall meant Peloton had now run seat-post recalls on both of its flagship stationary-bike lines within two and a half years of each other.
Why it happened
- The 2023 Bike recall addressed the PL01 seat post but didn't extend to the Bike+'s PL02 seat post, even though both lines share the same basic seated-cycling design.
- A second seat-post failure surfacing on Peloton's other bike line within two and a half years suggests the 2023 recall treated a shared design risk as a single-model problem.
The lesson
Two seat-post recalls in two and a half years, one per bike line, is what happens when a recall fixes the model in front of it instead of asking where else the same part fails the same way.
Aftermath
Peloton shipped free replacement seat posts for Bike+ owners to install at home, matching its 2023 remedy for the original Bike. The company did not disclose whether it reviewed other product lines for the same seat-post design after the second recall.
