What happened
Ryohin Keikaku (MUJI) sold about 600,000 Room Fragrance Sprays — 11 scents including Woody and Green, launched from September 2024 — until bacteria found in the manufacturing process pulled them on October 30, 2025.
The sprays fail MUJI's quality standard: bacteria detected due to a manufacturing lapse. Owners were told to stop using them and claim a refund through a web form or at any MUJI store.
A brand built on quiet trust recalled its most decorative product for the least visible defect.
