What happened
Fashion Dive, a daily news brief on the business of fashion, stopped publishing on August 30, 2025. Informa TechTarget, the company behind the Dive family of trade publications, announced the decision on August 21, saying it had made the difficult choice to cease operations of the title. Reporter Laurel Deppen moved to Food Dive; senior editor Lara Ewen left the company.
The Dive network — Marketing Dive, Retail Dive, Supply Chain Dive and others — is built on email newsletters and advertising sold to industry professionals. Informa acquired Industry Dive in 2022 for about $525M, then merged it with TechTarget's media arm to form Informa TechTarget. When the merged group reviewed its portfolio, Fashion Dive was the vertical cut, and readers were redirected to the remaining titles.
Why it happened
- After the Informa-TechTarget merger the portfolio was managed as one business; a vertical that could not stand on its own revenue was closed rather than funded.
- The Dive model sells advertising to a niche's marketers, so a vertical lives or dies with its industry's B2B budgets and has no second revenue line.
- Editorial talent was transferable inside the network, so the owner shut the title instead of selling it.
The lesson
A trade-press vertical lives on the niche it serves; when the owner rationalises the portfolio, the beat with no standalone economics disappears first.
Aftermath
The site stayed up as an archive, with readers redirected to Marketing Dive, Retail Dive and Supply Chain Dive. Laurel Deppen continued at the network on Food Dive.
