Enly kept cold-calling and misleading after a DKK 700k fine — the name change didn't help
47 calls without valid consent, 41 of them misleading, after Grøn Elforsyning renamed itself Enly. Second police report in two years; the CEO wants a trial.
Enly · 2026-07-09
What happened
Grøn Elforsyning, a Danish electricity retailer, was reported to the police in October 2024 for calling consumers without consent and misleading them. In February 2025 it accepted a DKK 700,000 fine for calling 27 consumers without consent between October 2022 and July 2024 and misleading 17 of them. Shortly afterwards it changed its name to Enly A/S.
The Consumer Ombudsman says the conduct continued: between 25 July 2024 and 26 September 2025, Enly called at least 47 consumers without valid consent — the 'consents' it had bought from lead partners did not meet legal requirements — and misled 41 of them during the calls. Callers implied they were phoning from, or cooperating with, the consumer's current provider; promised savings without knowing the existing contract; claimed transport and electricity taxes had been abolished; said Enly would take over billing; and identified themselves as a different company, 'Grøn El'.
On 9 July 2026 the Ombudsman filed a second police report, for violations of the Consumer Contracts Act's ban on unsolicited telemarketing and the Marketing Practices Act's rules on misleading practices. Enly's CEO rejects the assessment, says the company holds documentation of valid consent, and wants the case decided in court.
Why it happened
- The calls continued after a DKK 700,000 fine for the same conduct — under a new company name.
- Bought 'consents' from lead partners did not meet legal requirements; 47 consumers were cold-called anyway.
- 41 calls were misleading: callers posed as the consumer's current provider and invented savings, abolished taxes and billing takeovers.
The lesson
A fine is not a reset button: Enly renamed itself, kept cold-calling and misleading, and earned a second police report — with the CEO demanding a trial instead.
Aftermath
The police report of 9 July 2026 asks the courts to fine Enly for illegal telemarketing and misleading marketing between July 2024 and September 2025. Enly disputes the Ombudsman's assessment and has asked for the case to be settled in court.
