On 16 February 2026 a Facebook ad for Bolt Pharmacy showed its packaging beside pound coins with the text 'Price drop alert. We've cut the cost of our weight loss solution', captioned 'Affordable Weight Loss Starts Here'. On 3 March 2026 a second ad showed the same packaging with 'SYSTEM CRASHED PRICING ERROR. The ASA challenged whether the ads promoted prescription-only medicines to the public. Bolt Healthcare Ltd accepted the wording 'prescription treatments' was unsuitable for a public-facing ad and withdrew that version, and said it was updating user journeys so a clinical consultation would come before any prescription-only medicine was shown. Both landing pages compared 'Wegovy' and 'Mounjaro' beside images of their branded injection pens.
On 29 July 2026 the ASA upheld the complaint. The 'prescription treatments' reference and the landing pages breached CAP rule 12.12 — the MHRA said the ads invited consumers to follow a path that led to weight-loss medicines and did not support rational use of a medicinal product. The ads must not appear again, and Bolt was told not to promote prescription-only medicines to the public.
The ASA banned the ads: scripted urgency cannot make a prescription legal, and the quiz was a funnel to Wegovy and Mounjaro.
'SYSTEM CRASHED PRICING ERROR' was a scripted headline, not an accident — the crash was the offer.
