White Deer Plain folk village (白鹿原民俗村) was demolished four years after opening

白鹿原民俗文化村 (White Deer Plain Folk Culture Village) opened on 1 May 2016 in Lantian, outside Xi'an, a ¥350 million imitation old-street attraction riding the White Deer Plain novel-and-TV IP. Its first May Day holiday drew around 400,000 visitors in three days, about 120,000 on opening day alone.

The crowds thinned within two years: no landscape or heritage of its own, pricey common snacks, and a wave of rival 'White Deer Plain' projects opening across Lantian, Chang'an and Baqiao. By November 2017 shops were shuttering; on 9 August 2019 the village suspended operations for 'renovation', and in October it came off Xi'an's A-level scenic list.

On 7 March 2020 the demolition notice came down: platforms one to five, the food street and surrounding buildings were to be razed between 12 and 31 March 2020. A ¥350 million attraction had lasted four years, while rival Yuanjiacun, cited in coverage as the model it failed to match, kept its visitors.
