What happened
Artmonium was an eyewear distributor based at Saint-Julien-sur-Dheune in Saône-et-Loire, created in July 2020, with between ten and nineteen staff. Its catalogue was built on collections it did not own: among them three licensed lines of the 15-1 Eyewear group — Armor-Lux Eyewear, Festina Eyewear and Alpine Eyewear — which it sold to opticians across France.
On 4 November 2025 the Tribunal de commerce of Chalon-sur-Saône placed the company in receivership. The procedure lasted ten weeks: on 22 January 2026 the court converted it into judicial liquidation, with the SAS Deslorieux of Chalon-sur-Saône appointed liquidator. No continuation plan and no buyer for the company itself emerged.
The brands, however, did not wait for the wind-up. Days after the judgement, rival distributor Variation Design announced that it had taken over the distribution and aftersales service of all three collections — already operational, it confirmed — placing them alongside its own V.Design lines and the third-party brands it carries, such as Snob Milano, Loma and Maison Noma.
The shape of the case: the catalogue walked, the distributor died. Artmonium carried other people's names to market, and when it fell those names moved next door inside a week. The intermediary bore the risk of the channel and commanded none of its loyalty.
Why it happened
- The company was young — created in July 2020 — and small, with ten to nineteen staff, and its catalogue consisted of collections owned by others
- The Chalon-sur-Saône court opened receivership on 4 November 2025 and converted it to liquidation on 22 January 2026: ten weeks, with no continuation plan or buyer
- The collections themselves survived intact — Variation Design took over distribution and aftersales of Armor-Lux, Festina and Alpine Eyewear within days, effective immediately
- The distribution business proved to be a replaceable layer: the brands moved to a rival, and only the intermediary disappeared
The lesson
A distributor is replaceable; its catalogue is not its own. Artmonium carried Festina, Armor-Lux and Alpine eyewear — liquidated January 2026, the collections moved to a rival within the week.
Aftermath
Me Deslorieux's liquidation runs on from Chalon-sur-Saône while the three 15-1 Eyewear collections are now distributed by Variation Design, alongside its own V.Design and V.Design Kids lines and third-party names such as Snob Milano, Ovvo Optics, Wolf Eyewear, Loma and Maison Noma. Saint-Julien-sur-Dheune loses the company created there in 2020; the brands lose nothing but an address.
