Bacteria hit 13 Ypê laundry lots — six months later inspectors found 76 factory failures
After a 2025 contamination recall, inspectors found failures across Ypê's production and quality systems and stopped 23 liquid products from being made or sold.

What happened
In November 2025, Química Amparo's own tests found Pseudomonas aeruginosa in 13 lots of Ypê liquid laundry products. Brazil's health regulator Anvisa suspended their sale, distribution and use and ordered the contaminated lots recalled.
A joint inspection of the company's Amparo factory in 2026 found 76 irregularities. Anvisa said failures in critical production stages and in quality-assurance, production and quality-control systems breached manufacturing requirements and created a risk of further microbiological contamination.
Anvisa initially ordered a recall and stopped the manufacture, sale, distribution and use of 23 liquid dishwashing, laundry and disinfectant products in lots ending in 1. Ypê appealed, temporarily suspending the measures while the regulator reviewed the case.
On 15 May, Anvisa restored the production, sale, distribution and use prohibitions but suspended the recall while it assessed a management plan for products already distributed. Química Amparo acknowledged the failures, kept the affected liquid production line idle and presented more than 200 corrective actions. No consumer injuries were reported.
Why it happened
- The first confirmed contamination was treated as a set of affected lots rather than evidence that the factory's broader controls needed containment
- Failures crossed quality assurance, production and quality control, leaving no independent layer able to stop the same risk from spreading across product lines
- Lot numbering, rather than a narrowly isolated process or product, became the regulator's practical boundary for the prohibition
- Corrective work reached more than 200 actions only after inspectors stopped the line, showing how much control debt had accumulated before intervention
The lesson
A contaminated batch is also a test of the system that released it — contain the factory process before a lot-level failure becomes a portfolio-wide shutdown.
