The Peachy closed after 5 years — running a Vietnamese fashion brand alone was exhausting
Founder Cara Trần ran every part of the business herself to cut costs. When the e-commerce price war got worse, she had nothing left to give.

What happened
The Peachy was a Vietnamese fashion brand founded in 2020 by Cara Trần. Like many young local brands, it built a following through social media and word of mouth, offering women's clothing at accessible price points. The brand operated through a combination of physical retail and online channels.
From 2023 onward, Vietnamese fashion brands faced intense pressure from Chinese e-commerce platforms flooding the market with cheap clothing. The Peachy's founder found herself trapped in a vicious cycle: selling on e-commerce platforms meant competing on price against subsidised cross-border goods, while not selling on them meant losing visibility to shoppers who had moved online.
By early 2025, Cara Trần was exhausted from running every part of the business herself — design, production, marketing, sales — to minimise costs. She could not afford to hire staff because the margins were already razor-thin from the price war with Chinese imports. In March 2025, she closed The Peachy. She said the brand had run out of energy and resources to keep going.
Why it happened
- The founder ran every function of the business alone to cut costs — when the competitive pressure intensified, she had no organisational capacity to respond
- Chinese e-commerce platforms on Shein, Temu and TikTok Shop sold clothing at prices that left no margin for a small Vietnamese brand covering design, production and retail costs
- The brand was trapped between needing to be on e-commerce platforms for visibility and losing money on every sale made there
- A one-person operation cannot compete with platforms that have subsidised logistics, no import taxes and unlimited product range
The lesson
A solo-founder fashion brand fighting a price war on multiple fronts has no reserves. When the margin is gone, the people are gone too — and there is nobody left to turn it around.
Aftermath
The Peachy was one of several Vietnamese fashion brands that closed in 2024-2025, including Catsa (22 stores), Lep' (17 stores), Hnoss (36 stores), MỘT (shoe brand), and Elpis. The wave of closures was widely covered in Vietnamese media as a reckoning for local fashion brands facing an uneven playing field against Chinese e-commerce platforms.
