What happened
On October 6, 2026 the Singapore Tourism Board announced it had revoked the travel agent's licence of Sheen Yeow Travel, ending its permission to carry out any travel agent activity. The trigger: STB's review of the company's submissions 'revealed concerns about the authenticity of the financial information provided', and the board said it had reason to believe the company had submitted falsified information 'for some years'.
Revocation carries operating obligations: the agency must refund all existing customers or transfer its obligations to licensed travel agents to fulfil. STB framed the case as a warning to the trade, saying it takes a serious view of errant travel agents and will not hesitate to act to protect the reputation of Singapore's travel industry, and pointed consumers to its trust.stb.gov.sg list of licensed agents.
The revocation landed amid a run of STB actions against agencies: the same report links to the suspension of Vacanza Global Travels for failing to meet financial requirements and to the revocation of Sports Travel 360's licence. The Straits Times report did not disclose the size of Sheen Yeow Travel, the number of bookings affected, or any penalty beyond the revocation.
What it cost
The licence itself: no travel-agent activity allowed; all existing bookings must be refunded or handed to licensed agents.
Why it happened
Financial statements are how STB tests whether a licensed agency can carry customers' money; falsified ones defeat the licensing safeguard itself.
The falsification was sustained — 'for some years' — so each renewal cycle compounded the exposure instead of resetting it.
The review that caught it was routine oversight of submissions, not a customer complaint or a collapse.
The lesson
A licensed business's financial statements are its fitness-to-operate evidence; falsifying them converts a routine review into an existential one.
Aftermath
Sheen Yeow Travel must refund all existing customers or hand its obligations to licensed agents, and can no longer carry out any travel agent activity. STB published no fine — the revocation is the sanction — and said it will take necessary action against dishonest agents. Travellers were directed to trust.stb.gov.sg for the current list of licensed agencies.
