Raising Superstars sold 'walking at 8 months' — it had zero evidence. India: ₹8 lakh

'Crawling at 3 months, walking at 8, 200 words by 18 months', it promised. No study existed, and 'results may vary' didn't save it. CCPA: ₹8 lakh.

What happened

Raising Superstars, a Mumbai early-childhood platform, marketed its 'Prodigy Framework Program' with precise milestones: babies crawling at 3 months, walking at 8 months, and using a vocabulary of over 200 words by 18 months. The programs were priced from ₹497 to ₹39,000. Behind the promises there was nothing: no scientific study, no clinical assessment, no empirical research — only parental feedback from a pilot phase.

The case began with a complaint from the Advertising Standards Council of India; CCPA issued a show-cause notice in May 2022. Across three years of hearings the company could not produce data on how many children reached the advertised milestones, and in a final undertaking on 19 December 2025 confirmed it kept no quantified success data at all. Its disclaimers — 'results may vary', 'no guarantee of results' — did not save it: precise outcome claims about infants, CCPA held, are not cured by a general disclaimer, and parents of young children are a particularly vulnerable class of consumers.

On 25 February 2026 CCPA imposed an ₹8 lakh penalty on Raising Superstars Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. under sections 2(28) and 2(47) of the Consumer Protection Act 2019, ordering it to stop making developmental-milestone claims without credible, verifiable scientific evidence and to file a compliance affidavit.

Why it happened

  • The milestones were precise — crawling at 3 months, walking at 8, 200 words by 18 — and the only evidence was parental testimonials from a pilot phase.
  • Three years of hearings produced no outcome data; in December 2025 the company admitted it kept none.
  • 'Results may vary' doesn't cure a promise: CCPA ruled a general disclaimer cannot override precise outcome claims sold to anxious parents.

The lesson

A disclaimer can't carry a promise it contradicts: Raising Superstars sold 'walking at 8 months' with zero evidence — India's CCPA fined the program ₹8 lakh.

Aftermath

CCPA's order of 25 February 2026 imposed the ₹8 lakh penalty, payable within 15 days, plus a cease-and-desist on milestone claims without verifiable scientific evidence and a compliance affidavit. The case began with an ASCI complaint and a show-cause notice of 17 May 2022; the company said the impugned content was removed by 15 September 2021.
