A leaked video ended Nadia Bartel's brand run
A leaked 2021 lockdown video showed influencer Nadia Bartel with white powder, and her sponsorships soon ended.

What happened
Nadia Bartel, a former AFL WAG turned influencer with about 600,000 Instagram followers, had built her commercial brand on wellness — she promoted JS Health Vitamins and fronted beauty campaigns for MECCA and haircare retailer Hairhouse Australia. In early September 2021, during Melbourne's lockdown, a video circulated showing her apparently snorting white powder from a plate at an illegal gathering with three other women.
The reaction was immediate. JS Health Vitamins cut her as a promoter on 5 September, saying she was 'an individual who has endorsed our products' and that it had 'taken immediate action and will no longer be working with this individual'. Hairhouse Australia followed on 7 September, saying it had 'removed all affiliation with Nadia as an ambassador'. She also lost her MECCA beauty ambassadorship.
She issued an apology on Instagram saying she had 'let you all down by my actions'. Victoria Police fined each of the four women $5,452 for breaching lockdown rules and inquired into possible drug offences, though Bartel was not charged in relation to the white powder.
Why it happened
- A wellness ambassador filmed with white powder in a lockdown gathering contradicted the exact health-and-virtue promise she sold — the image and the product were opposites
- A leaked video is faster than any investigation: brands acted on the footage within days because the damage was already public
- Length of affiliation did not matter: the sponsorship was the message, and one viral clip replaced the message
- The breach fine was a regulator's confirmation the gathering was illegal, giving brands a clean reason to cut ties
The lesson
Nadia Bartel sold wellness to 600,000 followers; a leaked clip of white powder wiped out her sponsorships in days. An influencer's brand is one video away from the opposite of what they promote.
Aftermath
JS Health Vitamins dropped Bartel as a promoter on 5 September 2021 and Hairhouse Australia removed her as an ambassador on 7 September, with MECCA also ending her ambassadorship. She apologised on Instagram, saying she had let people down by her actions. Victoria Police fined each of the four women $5,452 for breaching Melbourne's lockdown and looked into possible drug offences, though Bartel was not charged for the white powder.
