What happened
MGC London, a brand management, PR and communications agency founded in November 2016, closed in July 2024 after eight years in business. The announcement came on the agency's own Instagram on July 30: with heavy hearts, it said, it was closing — and it thanked everyone who had been part of the journey.
Its client list read like a map of the British designer scene of the moment: Richard Quinn, Temperley, Galvan, Demellier, Taller Marmo. Those are exactly the small and mid-sized labels whose marketing budgets collapsed as luxury demand stalled — the agency's income shrank with its clients' businesses.
The closure landed inside a wider wave that took several London fashion PR firms in the same two years. The traditional economics — showroom space, sample trafficking, central London offices — stayed fixed while fees shrank, and budgets shifted from editorial coverage toward celebrity and influencer dressing. MGC London Limited's company record ends in dissolution in April 2026.
Why it happened
- A boutique agency lives on its clients' marketing budgets; when small designer labels cut spend or close, the agency's revenue disappears with them.
- Traditional PR overheads — showrooms, sample trafficking, a central London office — stayed fixed while retainers shrank.
- Brand budgets moved from editorial placements to celebrity and influencer dressing, a service mix a small agency was not built to sell.
The lesson
An agency serving small labels inherits their fragility — when the downturn takes the clients, it takes the agency's reason to exist with them.
Aftermath
MGC London closed on July 30, 2024; MGC London Limited was struck off and dissolved on April 27, 2026. WWD counted it among the fashion PR closures that cleared the ground for a generation of smaller boutique agencies.
