Spring Studios shot fashion for Louis Vuitton — AI took the production arm
The studio behind LVMH and Victoria Beckham campaigns put its UK production arm into administration in August 2025 — AI had eaten the shoot budgets.

What happened
Spring Studios started in London in 1996 as a studio space for still and motion shoots and grew into fashion's backstage machine — e-commerce production, prestige campaigns, content and events for clients like Louis Vuitton, Victoria Beckham, Ginori 1735, LVMH Métiers d'Art and Toyota. It expanded to New York in 2013 and Milan in 2017, and was still profitable in 2024.
Then the clients stopped buying. Upscale fashion and retail firms began generating imagery with in-house AI, cutting the casting, location and production budgets that Spring's London studios lived on. On August 19, 2025, parent Spring Media Investments announced it was closing the UK e-commerce and studios departments by way of administration — 30 to 35 jobs at risk. The administration formally began on August 28, 2025, with Andrew Pear and Richard Keley appointed.
The rest of the business survived the amputation: the London creative agency stayed open as the new focus, and Milan and New York were untouched because they held no e-commerce production. Chairman Navin Khattar framed it as pre-emption: 'We have to react proactively and stay ahead of the curve... we have embraced technology in our business.'
Why it happened
- Production — shoots and e-commerce imagery — was exactly the work generative AI replaced first; when clients took it in-house, the studio's revenue line disappeared.
- A profitable 2024 gave no protection, because the loss was structural: the budgets weren't delayed, they were automated away.
- The group cut the craft arm rather than converting it — creative direction survived, the studios didn't.
The lesson
When the client can generate the image in-house, the studio's craft becomes a cost line — fashion services' first AI casualty wasn't the creative department, it was the shoot.
Aftermath
The company was renamed SSL Realisations 2025 Limited in February 2026 as administrators wound the production arm down; Spring's creative agency kept running in London, Milan and New York with its LVMH-tier client roster.
