Kia's Telluride: the recall fix failed, so 462,869 SUVs must park outside
The 2024 fix for a stuck seat-switch knob could itself be the fire cause. New recall adds an electronic fuse; park outside until then. 462,869 SUVs.

What happened
The 2020–2024 Telluride's power seat slide knob can stick, holding the seat motor switch engaged until it overheats. In June 2024, Kia recalled the SUVs (campaign 24V407) and fixed them with a bracket over the seat switch back cover and a redesigned knob.
The fix could itself be the problem: an improper 24V407 repair may leave the fire cause in place. On July 2, 2026, Kia filed recall 26V430 for the same 462,869 vehicles — this time installing an electronic fuse assembly that cuts power when current draw turns abnormal — and told owners to park outside, away from structures, until it is done.
Owner letters go out August 13, 2026. A three-row family SUV — the school-run default — spends the summer sleeping in the driveway.
Why it happened
- The original June 2024 fix (24V407) may have been installed improperly — the botched repair itself keeps the seat-motor fire cause alive
- 462,869 SUVs recalled again on Jul 2, 2026 (26V430) with an electronic fuse assembly; owners told to park outside until repaired
- The Telluride is Kia's family flagship in the US — a park-outside order on 462,869 of them is the recall equivalent of a product grounded
The lesson
A recall is a promise about workmanship, performed twice — the second campaign exists because the first repair could be the fire. The fuse is the apology; the driveway is the cost.
