WME dropped Justin Baldoni the morning after Blake Lively filed her complaint

A day after Lively's harassment complaint, WME, which also represents her, dropped Baldoni as a client.

What happened

On the evening of 20 December 2024, Blake Lively filed a complaint with California's Civil Rights Department accusing Justin Baldoni — her co-star and director on It Ends With Us — of harassment and retaliation, and naming his production company Wayfarer Studios in the filing.

The next morning, WME dropped Baldoni as a client. The agency also represents Lively, and Deadline reported the decision came from WME leadership on the Saturday, at least in part because of the complaint.

For Baldoni the cost was representation itself: WME is one of Hollywood's biggest talent agencies, and the drop landed a day after the complaint, at the height of the story. The agency chose its other client within hours.

Why it happened

  • An agency representing both sides cannot stay neutral: once the complaint was public, keeping both clients meant owning the conflict.
  • The drop took hours, not weeks: WME leadership moved on the Saturday morning, before any legal finding, because the association itself was the exposure.
  • For Baldoni the agency was the gatekeeper: losing WME while the scandal ran stripped him of the representation that opens Hollywood doors.

The lesson

An agency repping both sides cannot stay neutral once a complaint is public: WME chose within hours and Baldoni lost his representation. Access is the product — revocable at the first sign.
