FamilyMart pulled hahababy's lucky bag three days after launch

The plagiarism storm around YouTuber couple's brand hahababy hit mid-campaign; FamilyMart returned every NT$499 lucky bag about three days after launch.

What happened

hahababy is the lifestyle and children's clothing brand run by Er Bo, wife of Tsai A-ga, Taiwan's most-watched YouTuber — family content is the couple's stock in trade, and the brand grew out of their audience. FamilyMart had booked a collaboration with it for the Ghost Month: a NT$499 'Pudu lucky bag' of snacks, sweets and an 8-inch melamine fruit plate. Industry sources said the collab had been planned and fixed months before the trouble began.

In mid-July 2026 plagiarism accusations engulfed hahababy, with comparison images circulating of its designs against other brands' — including Japanese ones. On July 28 the couple issued a joint apology admitting they had developed products 'too quickly' without keeping design records, and said the disputed products would be pulled and 'sorted out'. Then unboxings of the lucky bag surfaced a fresh problem: the melamine plate inside was made in China, against the brand's 'Made in Taiwan' promise.

FamilyMart pulled the collaboration about three days after it launched. Store staff told customers 'this batch is being prepared for return'; at one store a reporter found not a single bag had sold, the unsold stock sitting beside the garbage awaiting collection. The retailer could not wait the storm out — the campaign had been fixed months earlier — and industry sources said the channel might seek compensation from the brand for the delisting, the returns and related losses. hahababy had not answered that prospect.

Why it happened

  • The collab had been fixed months earlier and could not be renegotiated, only withdrawn: FamilyMart's choice was between absorbing a return run and letting its shelves carry the scandal
  • A convenience-store lucky bag is an impulse purchase bought on the couple's family image; the plagiarism accusations and the 'Made in Taiwan' contradiction broke exactly that
  • There was no waiting game — the storm was still burning while the bags sat in stores, so every day on the shelf attached the retailer's name to it

The lesson

FamilyMart's hahababy collab was planned months ahead, and the plagiarism storm hit after launch. The retailer returned the entire run in three days — the shelf clears before the apology lands.

Aftermath

The couple's July 28 apology admitted the products had been developed 'too quickly' and pulled the disputed items, but the backlash did not stop. Industry sources said the retailer might still seek compensation for the delisting and returns, and hahababy had not answered. FamilyMart's loss was a full return run and a collaboration that lasted about three days on its shelves.
