What happened
Grech Motors filed an equipment recall with NHTSA under campaign 26V628000, logged on September 30, 2026, covering 134 motorhomes: the 2027 Strada, the 2027 Terreno and the 2026-2027 Turismo, all built on Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis. The defect sits in the printed circuit board of certain MaxxAir N-Series Maxxfan roof ventilation fans, which NHTSA says is at risk of failing during certain operations and then overheating, increasing the risk of a fire. NHTSA filed the defect under the electrical system.
NHTSA's public summary lists no fires or injuries from the defect, and the notice carries no park-it or park-outside warning. The remedy is free: a dealer inspects the MaxxFan circuit board and replaces it as necessary. Grech expected to mail owner letters on October 30, 2026, and owners could check their VIN in the meantime rather than waiting for the letter.
The notice is Grech's slice of a wider MaxxFan problem. MaxxAir N-Series fans already drew an equipment recall of their own, NHTSA 26E036000, covering 5,021 fans, and other motorhome makers filed notices for the same fan family — Grand Design's recall 26V-446, for example, covers certain 2026-2027 Lineage units and tells owners not to operate the affected fan until inspection. For a converter that assembles vehicles around bought-in components, the campaign shows how a supplier's board failure becomes the vehicle maker's recall obligation.
What it cost
Free dealer inspection and board replacement across 134 motorhomes; owner letters were set to go out October 30, 2026.
Why it happened
NHTSA says the fan's printed circuit board is at risk of failing during certain operations and then overheating, and that an overheated board increases the risk of a fire.
Grech had installed the affected MaxxAir N-Series fans across three of its Sprinter-based model lines.
The vehicle manufacturer carries the recall obligation for defects in installed components, so Grech filed the notice rather than the fan maker, whose own 5,021-fan recall was already running.
The lesson
A small fan board can force a vehicle recall: component choices ride along with the badge, so the converter owns the fire risk of every part it installs.
Aftermath
Owners get a free dealer inspection and replacement of the board as necessary; Grech set owner letters for October 30, 2026 and listed 1-951-688-8347 as the customer contact. Unlike Grand Design's parallel notice, NHTSA's summary of the Grech recall carried no stop-use instruction, so owners were advised only to have the fan inspected. The Grech campaign is one of several filings that followed MaxxAir's own recall of 5,021 N-Series fans under NHTSA 26E036000.
