Culture Atlanta sneaker consignment shop shuts, robbery claim disputed by its own mall

Culture Atlanta was a consignment shop for high-end sneakers and designer items at Cumberland Mall in Cobb County, Georgia, a place where collectors handed over pairs to be sold. In February 2024 it announced it was closing, blaming multiple robberies in which it said $50,000 in cash along with its inventory had been stolen.

The explanation did not hold up. Cumberland Mall's representatives said the multiple robberies the store had claimed on Instagram were false, and an open-records report from the Cobb County Police Department showed only one burglary had been reported. Consignors who had left sneakers at the store could not get their inventory back — canceled appointments, missing items, months of silence, and news of the closure arriving only through an Instagram post. At least 15 accused the owners of stealing or mismanaging their goods; one said he was out about $35,000, another about $10,500.

What was left was a consignment shop that shut its doors with consignors unable to recover shoes worth thousands, and a robbery story that the mall and police records contradicted. Whatever actually happened inside, the people who had trusted the store with their inventory were the ones left paying for it.
