Lidl's Eridanous shortbread: allergens hidden behind a foreign label
Foreign-language boxes carried no English ingredient or allergen panel — wheat, soy, milk, egg, coconut undeclared. Expanded 3 Aug 2026; refund, no receipt.

怎么回事
Lidl US expanded its recall of Eridanous Shortbread Cookies on August 3, 2026 — the 11.6 oz boxes with chocolate truffle coating and apricot filling, and with apricot filling, cocoa topping and coconut sprinkles — because the foreign-language labels carried no English ingredient list, nutrition panel or allergen declaration, leaving wheat, soy, milk, egg and coconut undeclared.
The cookies were distributed to all US Lidl stores between July 15 and July 28, 2026 — Pennsylvania, eight other states and DC. No illness was reported. Owners discard the box or return it to any Lidl for a full refund, no receipt needed.
A first recall on July 24 became an all-store expansion — the label that missed a language missed a market's law.
为什么会这样
- Foreign-language label without English ingredient or allergen panels — wheat, soy, milk, egg and coconut undeclared; recall expanded Aug 3, 2026
- Distributed to every US Lidl store in a two-week window, Jul 15–28 — the shelf was the whole country
- The allergens were on the box, just not in the language the market reads — a translation is the safety device
教训
An allergen declaration is only as good as the language it is printed in. A box that speaks the factory's tongue but not the market's ships five hidden allergens to every store.
