What happened
Volkswagen Group of America recalled Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs (2024–2026) in early August 2026 — a rearview camera display glitch may prevent the image from showing when reversing.
Dealers repair the fault free of charge.
The camera that exists to show what is behind, blanking at the exact moment it is asked to.
Why it happened
- Rearview camera may not display when reversing — Atlas/Atlas Cross Sport 2024–2026; free dealer repair
- The glitch lives in the display path — the eye works, the picture doesn't
- A software-era recall: the lens is fine, the pixels refuse
The lesson
A rearview camera is a promise about what the driver can't see. When the display blanks in reverse, the car keeps the promise's hardware and deletes the picture — the repair is the pixels.
