A host's on-air remarks cost Ventaneando its advertisers in a week
July 2026: after host Pedro Sola's on-air remarks about dogs, Halls, Trident, Clorets and Panditas pulled their ads from Ventaneando within a week.
Ventaneando · TV Azteca · 2026-07
What happened
On the 6 July 2026 broadcast of Ventaneando, the long-running Mexican entertainment show on TV Azteca, presenter Pedro Sola said on air that seeing dogs in public spaces made him want to throw them poisoned meat, and made similarly violent remarks about people who walk pets in strollers. The clip spread on social media, Sola issued a public apology, and the backlash turned toward the show's advertisers.
On 14 July, four Mondelēz brands — Panditas, Clorets, Halls and Trident — announced they were pulling their advertising from the program. Their joint statement said the remarks 'son responsabilidad exclusiva de quien las expresó y no reflejan, bajo ninguna circunstancia, los valores ni principios de nuestra marca'; Clorets added that it 'reprobamos cualquier forma de violencia, maltrato o crueldad hacia los animales'.
As of the reporting, neither TV Azteca nor the show had commented on the withdrawals. The show lost a block of its blue-chip ad spend in the space of a week, and the case ran as a live example of sponsor flight: the advertisers' relationship was with the program, but the risk was priced on every unscripted second of it.
Why it happened
- Live gossip formats monetise friction, but sponsors pay for goodwill — one unscripted remark moved the host's debt onto the advertisers' books.
- The exodus spread by brand protection: once the first advertisers left, staying in the pod became its own reputational risk.
- The show and network said nothing for a week, leaving the departing brands' statements as the only narrative on record.
The lesson
An advertiser buys a program but inherits every unscripted moment in it. Live formats need a sponsor-protection plan: the first brand to leave sets the exit price for the rest.
Aftermath
The withdrawals made national news in Mexico and revived the debate over how shows price host risk. Sola remained with the program, while advertisers in later seasons asked for conduct clauses before returning.
