Reag hid major fund investors from Brazil's CVM and misreported liquidity
Brazilian asset manager Reag concealed major investors, gave inaccurate liquidity data and skipped stress tests, prompting CVM charges and liquidation.

What happened
Reag was a Brazilian asset manager and securities distributor tied to the Banco Master ecosystem. Between late 2023 and 2024 it managed funds including Reag Alpha, Bravo 95 and Reag Growth, some of which were later linked to the Federal Police's Operação Carbono Oculto money-laundering investigation.
In May 2026, the Brazilian securities regulator CVM filed enforcement charges accusing Reag of repeatedly failing to disclose investors that held more than 20% of a fund's net assets, reporting redemption requests that exceeded a fund's net value, classifying illiquid holdings as liquid, and not carrying out mandatory stress tests. The regulator described the conduct as a pattern repeated over years and accompanied by broken remediation promises.
The Central Bank had already put Reag Trust into extrajudicial liquidation in January 2026 for serious violations of financial-system rules. The CVM's charges added securities-law exposure for the firm and a former director.
Why it happened
- Large single-investor funds were registered as non-exclusive, hiding concentration risk from regulators and other investors
- Redemption and liquidity data sent to the CVM did not match the funds' actual portfolios
- Stress tests, required by fund regulation, were not performed
- The CVM had sent multiple warning letters and accepted remediation commitments that Reag allegedly breached
The lesson
When a fund manager treats regulatory disclosure as optional, the regulator eventually treats the manager as unfit to operate.
Aftermath
Reag Trust was liquidated by the Central Bank in January 2026. The CVM enforcement proceeding continued, with potential sanctions against Reag and a former director. The case was also cited in a February 2026 Senate hearing on the Master-Reag ecosystem.
