Proof & Company closed Singapore after 13 years — its bar customers were closing too
A specialist spirits distributor that supplied 50+ independent brands to Singapore's top bars shut down when its own customers started closing around it.

What happened
Proof & Company Spirits was the Singapore distribution arm of a global independent spirits group, founded in 2012. For 13 years, it supplied more than 50 types of independent spirit brands to Singapore's premium bars, restaurants and hotels, building a reputation as the go-to distributor for craft and boutique labels in Asia-Pacific. Its Singapore business had an annual turnover of S$7 million, and the global group turned over S$34 million.
On July 21, 2025, the company entered provisional liquidation and closed its Singapore distribution operations. Sixteen staff lost their jobs. The company cited mounting challenges in Singapore's F&B and hospitality industry, including the closure of some of its longest-standing restaurant and bar customers. It also pointed to significant market challenges in China and an extended downturn in Australia, where its Australian arm had already been placed into voluntary administration in April 2025.
Proof & Company's cocktail bar 28 HongKong Street continued operating independently, and its consultancy arm Proof Creative continued from Hong Kong. But the core distribution business — the reason the company existed in Singapore — was gone. The closure was part of a broader F&B contraction: 3,047 Singapore F&B establishments closed in 2024, the highest figure since 2005.
Why it happened
- Proof & Company's business model depended on a healthy premium bar and restaurant scene. When its own customers started closing, the distribution pipeline had nowhere to go.
- The company had concentrated its bets on three markets — Singapore, China and Australia — and all three turned down at once, leaving no leg to stand on.
- S$7 million in annual Singapore turnover was too small to absorb the loss of major accounts. A distribution business with thin margins cannot survive its customer base shrinking.
The lesson
A distributor is only as strong as the market it serves. Proof & Company lasted 13 years, but when its customers closed, the pipeline had nowhere to go.
