Lynk & Co's flagship launch was scooped by its own embargoed video

A creator team misread the 20:30 embargo as 8:30, putting the Lynk 900 online before its launch event.

What happened

Lynk & Co invited a creator team to film the Lynk 900 before its flagship global debut in Shanghai on January 3, 2025. The embargo time in the confidentiality agreement was 20:30 that day, but the team set the video to publish at 8:30 in the morning.

The early upload put the car online before the launch event. The team took the video down, contacted the brand and later apologized publicly. Reporting said Lynk & Co then sent a lawyer's letter seeking to handle the breach under the agreement, with RMB 5M named as the claim amount, but no final payment or court result was reported.

The mistake turned a controlled product reveal into a discussion about the leak and the claim. Even when an influencer is outside the company, the launch calendar is still part of the brand's operating system.

Why it happened

  • The embargo process depended on a partner reading one time field correctly
  • A pre-launch asset had enough product detail to replace the planned reveal once published
  • The response shifted attention from the car's selling points to the dispute around the leak

The lesson

Embargoes are operational controls, not just legal language. Build release systems so one mistyped time cannot outrun the launch it protects.
