Logitech's China store told buyers they'd 'come running like a dog' for a discount
A Logitech flagship-store ad on Douyin said a price cut made customers 'come running like a dog'. Shanghai regulators fined the store operator.

What happened
In March 2026 Logitech's official flagship store on Douyin posted a mouse promotion with copy reading, roughly, 'cut the price and you still came running like a dog' — addressed to the buyer. Screenshots spread fast, with commenters calling it contempt for the same customers the brand was trying to sell to, and some framing it as a foreign brand taking Chinese money while insulting Chinese buyers.
Logitech China apologised the same evening, saying the copy had been posted by an employee of Shanghai Baishide Electronics — the operator running its Douyin store — who had bypassed Logitech's own review process for marketing material. The apology did little to calm the reaction: complaints on the platform passed 2,000, and a visible share of commenters said they would rather buy a competitor's mouse than believe the explanation.
The case did not end with the apology. On 29 June, Shanghai's Jing'an district market regulator ordered the operator to stop running the ad and fined it 200,000 yuan, formally finding the copy in violation of advertising law. Logitech's storefront had quietly gone back up about a month after the apology, without a further public statement — which drew its own round of criticism for going quiet rather than closing the loop.
Why it happened
- The line insulted the exact audience the ad was trying to sell to, and discount shoppers read themselves into it immediately.
- Blaming an outside operator for content on the brand's own storefront did not satisfy an audience that saw only Logitech's name on the post.
- Reopening the store without further comment, after a public apology, read as waiting out the attention rather than resolving what was promised.
The lesson
Logitech's China store told discount shoppers they'd 'come running like a dog'. The operator was fined 200,000 yuan months later. An ad that mocks its own customer has no version that works.
Aftermath
Logitech apologised and pulled the ad, blaming the outside operator running its Douyin store. The store reopened about a month later without further comment. On 29 June 2026, Shanghai's Jing'an district regulator fined the operator 200,000 yuan for the ad.
