Yeferson Cossio sold a course in getting rich — SIC fined it COP 813M
Apr 2025: SIC fined Grupo Cossio COP 813M — 'Método Cossio' promised followers and money in five months, and the influencer's success story was the bait.

What happened
Grupo Cossio S.A.S. sold 'Método Cossio', a course by Colombian mega-influencer Yeferson Cossio, pitching buyers a replicable path to his success: recover the investment and obtain significant profits in just five months. The promotion asked 'what will you think in five months, when everyone who bought the course is covered in followers, in money?' — and told buyers they could pay it off 'literally with their first video'.
The SIC held these were not rhetorical flourishes but objective claims creating false expectations of guaranteed financial results. Resolution 20777 of 15 April 2025 confirmed a fine of 813 million pesos for misleading advertising, noting that Cossio's direct participation and his use of personal success as a replicable example increased the credibility of the promises and induced purchase decisions based on false expectations.
Influencer-sold products carry a double substantiation duty: the claim must stand on evidence, and the influencer's biography is not evidence. When the pitch is 'my success can be yours', the regulator asks for proof that it can.
Why it happened
- The course promised recovered investment and big profits within five months — 'covered in followers, in money'.
- The SIC treated the promises as objective claims, not rhetoric: false expectations of guaranteed results.
- Cossio's personal participation lent credibility — his success story was the pitch, and it was not replicable.
The lesson
An influencer's success story is the pitch, not the proof: income claims in a course sale need evidence of their own, and the regulator reads 'you will earn this' as a promise.
Aftermath
Resolution 20777 stood. The case is Colombia's reference for influencer-sold income promises and is cited in the SIC's enforcement line against misleading advertising in digital products.
