Goonies One, the Jimny dealer that sold cars it couldn't deliver, heads for bankruptcy

Goonies One was set up in November 2017 in Munakata, Fukuoka, as a used-car dealer and Suzuki sub-dealer. It made its name as a Suzuki Jimny specialist — custom work, parts and servicing — and built a following among Jimny enthusiasts, growing revenue to about ¥680m for the year ended October 2024.

Then the deliveries broke. Payments were taken but cars were not handed over; opaque contracts produced payment delays and ever-longer delivery waits. By the end of March 2026 the company had stopped operating: the store was closed and it could not be reached. More than 100 customers reported being left waiting for vehicles they had already paid for.

On 20 June 2026 it emerged through Tokyo Shoko Research that Goonies One was preparing to file for bankruptcy, with the total debt still being investigated by its lawyers. For the customers in the queue, the money paid and the cars that never came became one and the same loss.
