What happened
Ford recalled 565,691 Bronco and Bronco Raptor trucks (2021–2026) on July 28, 2026 — the engine-compartment wiring harness can become damaged and short-circuit, with fire at the end of the fault.
Dealers will install protective sheathing over the wiring free of charge; owner notification letters begin mailing August 24, 2026.
A harness routed where the engine lives — the fix is armor added years later.
Why it happened
- Engine-compartment harness can damage and short — fire risk; 565,691 Broncos 2021–2026; free sheathing at dealers
- The wiring sits in the hottest, most abrasive bay in the truck — the routing is the decision
- The remedy wraps the harness, not reroutes it — sheathing is the admission of where it should never have chafed
The lesson
A wiring harness is routed once and rubbed for a decade. Half a million sheathing kits are the price of a path that passed the drawing but not the engine bay.
