Cosmopolitan Australia returned to newsstands in 2024 — and was gone again in 16 months

Cosmopolitan first launched in Australia in May 1973 under Bauer Media, running for 45 years before Bauer axed the print edition in December 2018, citing changing reader habits and commercial viability. The title was revived in August 2024 by independent publisher KK Press, returning to newsstands with cover star Tones And I and a full editorial team.

The revival did not last two years. KK Press, which also published several other Australian magazine titles, entered liquidation in early 2026 in what industry observers described as a brutal climate for print media. Cosmopolitan Australia was shuttered for the second time, with the publisher's financial collapse making any further operation impossible. Staff were let go and the March 2026 issue was never produced.

The closure marked the end of one of Australia's longest-running women's lifestyle magazines, revived with hope and extinguished by the same industry pressures that had killed it the first time — declining print advertising, rising production costs, and a publisher too small to absorb the losses.
