Comgen went from online to Parnas Mall and back — a four-year detour

S&A launched Comgen in 2021 with Jeong Gu-ho, expanding the online brand into Parnas Mall and department stores. In 2025 it pulled back to online only.

What happened

S&A, the fashion affiliate of the Global Sae-A Group, launched Comgen in 2021 as a genderless contemporary casual brand. Director Jeong Gu-ho oversaw the launch planning — his involvement was a talking point in itself — and the collections drew attention for minimal silhouettes, semi-formal looks and polished casualwear. The brand started as an online-only operation.

From that online base Comgen expanded into physical retail: Parnas Mall in Samseong-dong, Seoul, and then department-store floors. The expansion ran ahead of what the young concept could carry. In 2025 S&A decided to pull out of offline distribution entirely and refocus the brand online, putting efficiency first.

The company framed the retreat as concentration rather than defeat: menswear was selling well, the genderless concept would be kept, and Comgen would carry on casually, online. What ended was the four-year bet that an online-born brand needed physical floors to grow.

Why it happened

  • The offline network cost more to run than it returned; efficiency pointed back to online.
  • Department-store floors were bolted onto an online-native brand with no department-store customer base of its own.
  • The selling line — menswear — sold where the brand had started: online.

The lesson

An online-native brand borrowed a famous name to go offline: Comgen opened in Parnas Mall and department stores, then in 2025 conceded the push was inefficient and went back online.

Aftermath

Comgen continues as an online-only genderless casual brand under S&A, leaning on its strong-selling menswear line. The Parnas Mall and department-store presence is gone.
