BMW S1000RR: an ignition lock that can stall the bike and its lights

What happened
Transport Canada listed BMW's recall of the S1000RR (model years 2020–2026) on July 23, 2026: the ignition lock can wear and lose electrical contact, stalling the engine and disabling the brake lamp, turn signals, ABS and instrument cluster.
The failure stacks crash risk three ways — sudden power loss, dark lights and signals, and a longer stopping distance without ABS. No incidents were specified in the notice.
The corrective action is still under development; owners will be notified by mail. A flagship sport bike waits on a lock's wear curve.

The lesson
