Kolon FnC ends Amofre, its Jo Se-ho menswear brand, after 4 years

Kolon FnC shut down Amofre, the menswear brand it launched in 2021 with TV host Jo Se-ho, after its autumn-winter season, blaming sustained poor sales.

What happened

Amofre was a menswear brand that Kolon FnC launched in 2021 in collaboration with TV host Jo Se-ho. Its debut product, denim sold as 'real-length jeans that need no alteration,' generated launch buzz and media attention.

Despite the publicity around the launch, Amofre failed to sustain sales. After four years, Kolon FnC ended the brand's business at the close of its autumn-winter 2025 season, in the same portfolio cull that also discontinued its lifestyle brand Epigram.

Kolon FnC framed the move as part of adjusting its brand portfolio for long-term growth and said it would concentrate overseas expansion on core labels Kolon Sport and G/FORE.

Why it happened

  • A celebrity-collaboration launch produced an initial spike of attention, but the brand never built a repeat-purchase base or enough scale to survive Korea's slow consumption market.
  • Kolon FnC's tolerance for a loss-making label ran out against a prolonged consumer downturn, so it cut Amofre rather than fund a turnaround.
  • The menswear line lived on launch buzz alone — a single product story ('no-alteration denim') that did not convert into a durable brand.

The lesson

A celebrity name and a clever launch product can buy attention, but a brand dies when the attention is not converted into a repeat-purchase base.

Aftermath

Kolon FnC ended Amofre's business at the end of its autumn-winter 2025 season, alongside the closure of lifestyle brand Epigram. The company said it would focus its overseas push on core brands Kolon Sport and G/FORE. The closures were part of a 2025-2026 wave in which Korean apparel conglomerates including Hansae and Samsung C&T cut mid-tier labels that could not hold sales in a weak domestic market.
