The ID.Buzz was the warmest launch in VW's electric lineup: the microbus returned, all curves and nostalgia, at $61,545. It sold 4,934 units in the US through the third quarter of 2025 — a rounding error next to the combustion vans it was priced against, in a shrinking American EV market.
In July 2025, tariffs made the Germany-built Buzz uneconomic to ship; VW halted US exports. In December it confirmed the 2026 model year would be skipped entirely — dealers would work through 2025 stock into mid-2026, and a 2027 model with a US charging port would follow. The CEO insisted the Buzz was not canceled; the market had already delivered its verdict on the first one.
Nostalgia priced a museum piece: the bus people remembered cost a fraction of the bus they were offered, and the buyers who loved the story could not afford the tariff-loaded ending. A one-year gap is the polite form of a withdrawal.
