VOUX made Taiwan's own technical apparel for 11 years — and still couldn't break even

VOUX built a functional-apparel brand entirely in Taiwan. After 11 years it closed, saying acclaim never turned into enough sales to break even.

VOUX · 2026-01-08

怎么回事

VOUX started in fabric research and export trade before building its own functional-apparel brand, designing, pattern-making and producing water-resistant, breathable technical wear entirely in Taiwan — a rare domestic alternative to imported outdoor and techwear labels.

On 8 January 2026 the company announced it would close after 11 years, telling customers that despite product acclaim it had never been able to expand its market reach or reach break-even profitability against established international brands.

The wind-down was staged over months: a clearance sale of up to 65% off started 12 January, final orders closed 31 March, social media shut down 15 April, and customer service ended 30 April. Its physical presence, a lab store in Neihu plus past counters in Zhonghe, Yilan and Kaohsiung, wound down alongside it.

为什么会这样

  • Making everything domestically was the brand's selling point, but it also meant carrying costs that importers of mass-produced technical wear did not — acclaim did not close that price gap
  • Eleven years is long enough to prove a product works and still not long enough to prove a business model works, if the volume needed to break even never arrives
  • A staged four-month wind-down, rather than an abrupt closure, suggests a brand that had time to plan its ending but not one that found a way to avoid it
代价Closed after 11 years, never reaching break-even代价高昂

教训

Being the only brand making something domestically is a story, not a business model — it still has to out-price or out-sell the imports that don't carry the same costs.
