A French jewellery chain took on pandemic debt — 19 months in court worked it off
Corbeille d'Or's 21 stores took on debt through the yellow-vest protests and Covid, then needed a Bobigny court's restructuring plan to work it off.

怎么回事
Corbeille d'Or runs five companies operating 21 jewellery and watch shops across France, most of them in the Paris region, plus two e-commerce sites, Corbeille d'Or and Les Anneaux Bleus. Like much of French independent retail, it came through the 2018–19 yellow-vest protests and the Covid closures leaning on state support to stay open.
That support kept the stores trading but left the group carrying debt it could not sustain once ordinary retail conditions and rising purchase costs returned. In November 2023 the group asked the Tribunal de Commerce de Bobigny to open judicial restructuring (redressement judiciaire) proceedings across all five companies rather than wait for a creditor to force the issue.
Over the roughly 19-month observation period that followed, Corbeille d'Or closed its unprofitable stores, repositioned its product mix, and put money into its digital channels rather than its physical footprint. The Bobigny court validated the resulting restructuring plans on June 10, 2025 — built around full repayment of the group's debts on an extended schedule, not a write-down.
为什么会这样
- Support designed to bridge a temporary shock (Covid closures) was carried as ordinary debt once trading resumed, rather than restructured while the group still had cash flow to negotiate from.
- A chain built for 21 physical storefronts kept that footprint through two consecutive demand shocks before conceding that some locations were structurally unprofitable.
- The group filed for court protection itself, ahead of a creditor petition — buying nineteen months to restructure under its own plan instead of a shorter, creditor-driven timeline.
教训
Emergency financing taken to survive a shock has to be renegotiated as soon as the shock passes — carrying it as ordinary debt into normal trading conditions just delays the same reckoning.
后来呢
The Bobigny court's June 2025 judgments confirmed restructuring plans providing for full repayment of Corbeille d'Or's debts, alongside continued closure of underperforming stores and investment in its two websites. The group continues trading under both the Corbeille d'Or and Les Anneaux Bleus names.
